Generalist?

Here’s what a generalist does!

After nearly 20 years working on digital products and services, you’ve seen a bit of everything. And learned how to solve all sorts of problems. Here are some of the things I can help you with.

I’m a designer who codes and keeps the business in mind. I can design and build an entire website, give you feedback on an app you’ve been working on, or join your product team. Here’s an overview of what I can bring to the table.

UX and interaction design

I help you make digital products and services easier to understand and use. That might mean untangling a complicated customer journey, simplifying a workflow or designing a completely new product. The aim is to find solutions that work for your users and your business. See how I work

Visual design and UI

I design interfaces with a clear hierarchy, good typography and a personality that fits your brand. From websites and online stores to apps and internal tools. I work on the whole user experience and make sure even the smallest details get some attention: buttons, error messages, menus, copy and everything in between. See some of the projects I’ve worked on

Form design and self-service

Applications, shopping carts, sign-ups, bookings and account pages are often more complicated than they need to be. I help you create simple forms that can even be fun to use, and make it easier to get things done, for both your users and your business. Form design and complex interfaces are close to my heart (in Norwegian)

Prototyping

Some ideas need to be tried out before you can really judge them. I create everything from quick sketches and clickable Figma prototypes to realistic, complex prototypes built with code. That lets us test content, interactions and complicated flows with real users, and gives the team something concrete to discuss before the finished product is built. Sounds expensive. Often saves money.

Usability testing

Can people find their way around? Do they understand what to do? And where do they get stuck? I plan and run usability tests, pull together the findings and suggest specific improvements to the design, interactions and content. We can test an early idea, a prototype or a product that’s already in use. Here’s how I approach usability testing (in Norwegian)

Expert reviews

Need an experienced pair of eyes from outside the team? I review your website or service to find the things that get in the way: confusing navigation, difficult language, flows that don’t make sense and details that make the experience harder than it needs to be. Get practical recommendations and help deciding what to fix first (in Norwegian)

Design systems

I help teams build, tidy up and develop their design systems. That includes components in both the design library and the code, shared design decisions, documentation and good practices for using and maintaining the system. The aim is to help designers and developers work together more efficiently and create products that work better together. Get help with your design system

Accessibility

Good digital services should work for everyone, however they use them. I help you find and fix issues with contrast, keyboard navigation, screen readers, forms, copy and structure. Accessibility is part of the work from the first design decisions through to the finished interface. Get help with accessibility (in Norwegian)

Digital strategy and concept development

What should you actually build, and where’s the best place to start? I help you clarify needs, explore ideas and decide which opportunities are worth your time. With a thorough understanding of design, technology and business, I can be a useful sounding board when you’re choosing a direction, assessing a solution or planning the next stage of a service. See how I work

User research and customer journeys

Before we solve a problem, we need to understand it properly. I help you find out who your users really are, what they’re trying to do and where they run into trouble. Through interviews, surveys, observation and customer journey mapping, we can make better decisions about what actually needs to improve in your service.

Content, structure and microcopy

Good content is part of the design. I help you organize and structure your content, make navigation easier to understand and write clear headings, button labels, help text and error messages. A good tidy-up usually makes it much easier for people to take the next step.

Websites and content management

I design and build custom websites from start to finish in Statamic CMS. You get a website built around your content, with an editing experience that’s easy to use. I also have experience with WordPress and Optimizely (formerly EPiServer), and can help with redesigns, content migration and improvements to existing websites.

Front-end development

I turn designs into responsive interfaces using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. That can be anything from a single component to a whole website, built to work across screen sizes, with keyboard navigation and real content. Because I work with both design and code, I can see the details through from the first sketch to the finished product.

E-commerce

I help you build and run online stores where it’s easy to find, understand and buy your products. That might involve design and development in WooCommerce, or improvements to product pages, filters, the shopping cart and checkout in an existing store. I’ve worked on e-commerce solutions for Oda, Tørn and Kipara Packrafts, among others. See a selection of projects

Payment integrations

I help you make payments a natural part of the user experience, whether you sell products, courses or services. Get help integrating Stripe, Klarna, Svea Finans or other payment solutions. The whole flow needs to work, including when a payment is interrupted or doesn’t go through.

Integrations and automation

Your forms, website and back-end systems often need to talk to each other. I help you connect services through APIs and automate specific tasks, such as passing a registration or inquiry to the right system. We work out what can be simplified and build around the workflow your team already uses.

AI and AI integrations

I help you find useful applications for artificial intelligence and integrate AI into the websites, services and systems you already use. That might be an assistant that finds answers in internal documents, suggested replies to customer inquiries or help choosing the right product. I can help with advice, design, prototyping and development. Together, we decide what AI can handle and what needs a person’s review. Read more about AI and AI integrations at kikonsulenten.no

Search engine optimization (SEO)

I help make your website easier to find and understand, for both people and search engines. That includes a clear site structure, good titles and descriptions, internal links, redirects and technical fixes. When redesigning or moving a website, I make sure existing content and important URLs are part of the plan.

Performance and conversion

Few things are worse for conversions than a slow website. And an awkward checkout can be enough to make most people give up. I help you find bottlenecks, improve loading times and remove obstacles on the way to a purchase, sign-up or inquiry. We use the data available and usability testing to decide what to tackle first and see whether the improvements actually work.

Hosting and migration

A website needs a good place to live. Through a hosting partner, I offer lightning-fast hosting on Norwegian servers powered entirely by renewable energy. I help you move your website and get your domain, certificates and CMS working together. You get someone to contact who knows both your website and the setup behind it. Lightning-fast hosting on green servers

Maintenance and ongoing development

Digital products need a little love and care after launch, too. I help with updates, troubleshooting, content changes and new features as your needs change. That can be a one-off job or an ongoing agreement, so you always have someone to call who knows your website or service. See the maintenance plans (in Norwegian)

Workshops, mentoring and team support

Need an extra designer, a mentor, someone to bounce ideas off or someone who brings design and development closer together? I can join your team, facilitate workshops, discuss solutions with management and share experience from previous projects. I’m particularly at home when people with different skills work together to make something complicated simpler. Read what others say about working with me
